I am helping my nephew with his computer which after reinstalling Win98SE will connect to the internet but not browse. It just comes up with the page not available screen. He is using IE6. I have tried IE repair and all the Windows diagnostics tools but was not able to do the Winsocks as they are not there under helpdesk\SFC. Please can anyone help?

Dialup or broadband? In other words, how are you checking to make sure it's connected?

If it's broadband, have you been through the Internet Options wizard in the Control Panel to make sure IE knows to use the NIC to get online rather than the modem?

Dial up and I know it is connecting with the dialup box. He has had Kazaa on his computer which we removed and I have seen a file with newdotnet in it. Thank you for the fast response Miz.

    Browser

Reload, reinstall IE6 over again, over itself, uninstall-reinstall, whichever. It should do the trick! HTH, enjoy, George.
