Windows Me Scandisk

Got a message error and when I tried to scan disk it would not complete the scandisk for folders or allocations.

 

"message error "???
What exactly did it say?

"would not complete the scandisk "
Meaning it stops or that it continually restarts?

If it is the latter, restart to Safe mode and run scandisk from there.

 

Scan Disk

For some reason it finally worked and I then defraged and that took quite a long time. Guess I hadn't done it for awhile. I have never done anything in safe mode. Are there particular steps I should take after putting it in safe mode? If so could you please send me the steps.
Appreciate your quick reply. This had happened to my husband on his computer awhile ago and it cleared itself up by itself.
The error message came up so quickly and I am not sure I closed it so fast that I didn't get the full message.
