I would do a clean install of XP Pro. If you go with 98SE then upgrade to XP There maybe some problems. A clean install is always best.

From the way you phrased the question, did you mean install 98SE and then upgrade to XP?

If so, then you should know that the XP upgrade will install a clean version of XP without installing 98 first. Never upgrade if it is avoidable.

The upgrade will just ask to check your 98 for eligibility for upgrade, but you don't need to install 98.

    How I would handle it.

    Hi,

I held licenses for both 98SE and XP I made a dual boot system. I had the required multiple partitions to do this. I installed 98SE first, then XP. If you need a more detailed recipe just post here.

I feel XP is all I will ever need but having 98 to fall back on is reassuring. And it is a hassle to install 98SE after XP.

    Good Luck
