I realize this question has been beat to death, but once again,
How do you fit web pages into window automatically? Most of them fit, but some are too wide, which means running rhe slider back and forth across bottom of window to read or se it all.

I have windows 98, IE6. Thanks for help.

Click tools>internet options and then click on the advanced tab. In the multimedia section tick the box that says enable automatic image resizing.

Short answer is, you can't. Some web pages are designed to fit, and others aren't.

I checked with our web developer. The problem seems to lie with how the author of the page designated the width.

If it's designated in pixels and the author set it up on a monitor using 800 X 600 resolution, the number of pixels that fill the windows at that resolution will use only about 2/3 of the window on a monitor set at 1024 X 768 resolution. Conversely, if the user has set his/her monitor at a lower resolution than 800 X 600, there will be more pixels than that monitor can display at one time and they will have to scroll sideways to see the whole page.

If the author of the page designates the width as a percentage of the window (as most seem to do, fortunately), the page will occupy that percentage no matter what resolution the user has set his/her display and, if the percentage was set correctly by the author, will fill the window.

    Thanks for reply Miz:

Most of my complaints have to do with newspapers. Maybe differant people design their own pages within the paper.
It's no big calamity, just the perfectionist in me coming out. HA!

I think there's still something wrong. That's what the automatic image resizing's all about. If the pic is too big to fit on your screen it's always due to the resolution of the picture vs. the resolution of your monitor. If the picture resizing is turned on in IE it should change the resolution of the pic so that it fits in the window. Don't know what the answer is though. One possibility. Once in a while I run into a pic that IE won't resize. I've noticed that in every case it's not a jpg or gif file. Usually a bmp or png. I've come to believe it only works with jpegs and gifs. Could this be what's happening?

Ancient history I know but I just clicked on "One of the papers I read" and it fits perfectly into my browser. Seems to indicate a setting in your browser is off somewhat.

Hope your problem is fixed by now. I can add no more as to a fix if don't. Sorry.

    Hi, Zander ~

'Automatic image resizing' only applies to images of image file formats and not entire web pages.
