If you are using Compaq SMART-2 or Smart Array Controllers and Compaq Insight Manager v3.20 or later, you can set the system to notify you if it spots a pre-failure condition and if there is an actual failure.

Should be lots better than trying to trap an event log entry.

But after lots of searching, darned if I can find the specific information you asked for. Dang. :(

The System Log of NT Event Viewer displays at least 2 errors (red): Event ID 1062 and Event ID 1064. Source for both is "Storage Agents ". Description gives you detailed information on the Compaq Drive Array problem.

Compaq Insight Manager alerts are generated by SNMP traps

Hope this helped a little bit

Compaq Disks in Compaq servers are covered by "pre-failure" warranty

Assuming that drives are hot plug you will be able to see lights on them :

Classic Drives (the cream ones with purple lugs) have 3 seperate LEDs, if the orange one comes on then this indicates a pre-failure condition. First thing a Compaq ASE (like me) will say is pop it out and pop it back in again as they are notorious for this.

Universal drives (black with one purple lug) have the same idea except you cant physically see the LEDs as seperate but it will go orabge for a pre-failure or red when the disk is dead

Again popping the disk in and out has been known to cure the fault. I'd also make sure that you have the lates ROM for the SMART controller as well as for the server (you can actually ROM the disks as well but thats a real chew as two identical looking disks may want different ROMs).

All the ROMpaqs, Insight Manager and any drivers are freely downloadable from Compaq.

Sorry about the lenth of reply !
