I have some EDO DIMM Memory sticks that want fit into dimm slots. The dimm slot near the end is not in the same place as on other sticks. They are off just enough to keep them from going into the dimm slot. The center slot is in the same place.

    thanks

How many total DIMM slots does your board have? Not neccessarily a trick question here, but may provide a quick answer.

    triplej451,

Chances are if your center slot lines up but the end slot doesn't the memory you're trying to install is not the same type that your board supports

There are different versions of 168 pinn DIMMs, Registered, Buffered and Unbuffered versions all use different slots.

The notch that determines type of DIMM is the one on the end. The center notch determines the voltage. If you're center notch is lining up you have the right voltage of DIMM - if the left notch won't seat then you have the wrong type.

Do you know the name and model of motherboard?

By going to their website and looking up the specs you should be able to see exactly what type of memory your board will accomodate.

    Check this link
    here for difference between dimms.

The text is rather long-winded but there is a good diagram in the "RAM on the system board section" that highlights the different postions the end notch on a DIMM can have.

Let us know what you find :)
