PC: HP xt938 running Win XP Home Ed (OEM factory installed)

When I go to "START-TURN OFF COMPUTER-STAND BY" I get the following pop-up message:

    "System Stand By Failed "
The device driver for the 'HP PS2 Keyboard (2k-3)' device is preventing the machine from entering Stand by. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update driver.

This is the OEM Keyboard that came with the system and when I try to update the driver, it tells me that the latest driver is installed and Devive Manager says that it is operating properly.
The "Stand by" function worked as advertised for 8 months and
now refuses to go into stand by.

The "Turn off and Restart" modes work properly, as always.

    Need help.....Thanks?????

    "STAND BY" Problem

    Many thanks Robin,

I uninstalled "Adobe Type Manager V4" and now it works like a charm. How someone came up with this fix is beyond my comprehension. Have a nice day :) :) :)

    standby problems here to...need help!

 I am having a problem also with STAND-BY mode, but not the same as the previous post.

When I start/log off/turn off computer/stand-by,my PC will turn off for a couple of minutes & then turn back on to the screen where my names is(the one that comes up when I first turn my PC on,where I click my name to get to my icons). If I leave it along, sometimes it will turn back off & then come back to my name screen again.Sometimes when it is shut down,it will make LOUD popping sounds thru the speakers.

I have bee just cutting off the moniter & the speakers to keep this problem from happening.

It seems like this problem just started after my brother hooked up my printer, but I don't see how that could affect it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated & thanks for such a helpful board.
