After uninstalling Kazaa P2P program I was left with a folder called BDE (Brilliant Design Entertainment) in my Windows folder. It is my understanding that BDE is a part of Kazza'a spyware. I have taken the following steps in the following order to remove it but to no avail, any suggestions to remove this folder would be greatly appreciated.

1.) Ran Windows normal uninstall programs method (which did successfully remove the Kazaa program).

2.) Ran Spybot (several times), which recognized and identified the BDE folder as spyware, but failed to remove it, even after allowing Spybot to run on reboot.

3.) Ran Adaware (several times), it failed to find the folder.

4.) Booted in safe mode, but still was refused the ability to remove it, something about write protected (sorry I didnt write down the refusal to delete message that Windows provided).

Once again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and end task on anything that might be in the folder. Look in the Processes tab as well.
Once the program is stopped, you will be able to manually delete it, or use spybot to remove it.

Try safe mode, then end task on everything that even remotely might have something to do with it, THEN it should go...

Try removing it in Safe Mode or run : msconfig, choose selective startup, and uncheck all the boxes beneath.

Maybe something in that folder is loading.

Right-click the folder and uncheck the read-only attribute, and apply to all folders and subfolders.

Also try right-clicking and remove the system's permissions for the folder and files. Be sure you have full access as Admin.

Please post the exact wording of the error messages.

    Hello

I wish just to present a general approach to
such problems (for Windows9x). Say we have a folder in C:\Program Files\...\ BDE and cannot delete it in Windows environement:
    -restart computer
-keep pressing CTRL to enter Startup Menu
-select "Command Prompt Only ", type as follows:

    C:\>deltree c:\progra~1\...\BDE

Delete directory "c:\progra~1\...\BDE" and all its subdirectories? [yn] y
    ...Deleting c:\progra~1\...\BDE
    C:\>_

OBS: before restarting the PC, we suppose to
write down the full path of the folder to be
deleted. The folders in the path must be named
with their DOS names (i.e: Program Files becomes progra~1 )

    regards

    Stefan

make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that
the file is not currently in use "

Once again , thanks to everyone

    OK.
Download Process Explorer here and install it (I'm assuming since you said "administrator" that you have NT,2k, or XP):
    http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml

Open up the program and click on Search (the binoculars). Type the name of the folder. When it finds something, highlight it.

In the window below, the process you found will be highlighted. Right-click and terminate the handle. Ignore the warning---whatever this thing is doing, it's not system-critical.

    Try to delete.

If that doesn't work, terminate all the handles you found if there are any more.

    Try to delete.

If that doesn't work, do the same process for each file inside the folder.

    Try to delete.

Tar Heel--Thanks for posting back and letting us all know what worked.
It is MSKB articles like the one you reference that make me dread the day that I will have to switch to WinXP.
