OK, this isn't really XP oriented, but I couldn't find a better board for it, so here goes:

I watched a Quicktime movie (accidently) a while back and now I notice that whenever I boot up, there's a Quicktime icon in the corner by the volume control. Whenever I tried to uninstall Quicktime from the Add/Remove Programs thing, all it did was reduce Quicktime to 1 meg, but it wouldn't take it off the list and I still get the icon when I boot up. How do I get rid of it?

It may not be all that quick!

This may be more complicated than you think. Before we go too far, though, if you know where you got the file to install QT before, reinstall it. If there was a problem with the install.log, reinstalling should repair it. Then try uninstalling again. There certainly shouldn't be any lingering tray icons after it is uninstalled.

If that doesn't help, then come back. Not uncommonly, older game CD's install an older version of QT right beside the version you may already have had. If the uninstallation doesn't work, we'll need to explore the other possibilities.

(This thread will probably be moved to the Applications section.)

    OK

I don't remember where I got it from so I just downloaded it from Apple and uninstalled it. This time it gave me an option on how to uninstall. "Uninstall everything" or "Uninstall." I tried "Uninstall" and it did the same thing so I re downloaded it and installed it again. It says it doesn't recommend Uninstall everything because it may cause applications to malfunction and will remove system extensions.
Is it only quicktime files that will malfunction or what? Will my comp still work if I click on uninstall everything?

You have XP! System files are protected, so go for it.

After that, we'll look for traces left behind. Let me know how you make out.

The reson I asked you to use the same one as last time was to insure that it was the same version. But we'll see how it comes out this way and proceed from there.

And Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to the applications section we go. Polaris, it'll get looked at by others who may have the same problem but never check the OS section.
