cmd.exe error message at startup

i'm getting the following error message on startup. "execution of the specified command has failed " behind the error box is the DOS screen ,....empty, but it's title is winnt\system32\cmd.exe
what has happened and how do I fix it ?????

 

Try checking the event logs. There may be detail there.

Otherwise, since 2K doesn't have msconfig or any other native startup manager, get Startup Cop which is free and does the same thing (but maybe better). Then uncheck everything running at startup that you don't absolutely need.

If that clears the error, start adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. If it turns out to be something you do want, try starting it after the PC is running and see if it works OK that way.

 

Thanks startup cop found the culprit.It was a print sharing start line in HKEY .....\run.....which eventually took you to Winnt\web\printers\images....and the file that it was trying to start was start.bat...an error was immediately registered.I dont think I need this startup so I've eliminated.do you know what its for.Meantime everything seems fine.

As to the start.bat thing, no idea. Do you have such a file and, if so, what's in it?
