I just did a fresh install of win2000pro. Now after no certine amount of time the sound stops working. So I have to restart the machine and then I have sound again. I have noticed that sometimes when I play .mov and .wmv files it can trigger it. I have installed SP3 but thats it for the upgrades. Any help well appriciated.

What kind of sound card do you have?

I have one based on Vortex2 and there is a problem with this and 2000 and VIA chipsets. I don't have a VIA chipset, so this works on others.

    I hope this helps.

It's a diamond monster 300, but it was working perfectly before the install. Thats the goofy thing.

That's the exact card I had and still have. And it worked fine until I put in a new video card then in certain games sound would just dropout. I found the above fix and it worked for me.

Hey thanks a lot. I finally got around to trying it and so far it has been a success.
