Since I work in Greece, when I install Win98 (English version) on a new machine, I normally set the "Regional Settings" to Greek. This way, users can view both the English and Greek character set. However, if Win98 was installed using "United States" (default) on a machine, even if I later change the "Regional Setting" to Greek (via the Control Panel) I find that the Greek character set cannot be viewed. Any way to change it so it views another character set properly, WITHOUT re-installing Win98 from the beginning??

While you are waiting for someone more familiar with the pitfalls to avoid in doing this customization, see if any of this nfo is helpful to you. You may just be overlooking some component, such as adding multilanguage support via add/remove programs or the keyboard addtion:

Ordinarily, I like to have prior first hand knowledge or at least to try something out before I offer it up as a suggestion, but this just looked like to much effort to do and then to reverse. Since you sound like you have done this type of setup before, I hope this helps.

    Dear Ann,

I have tried changing the country settings via the control panel, adding Greek language support in "Add/Remove Windows Components." Adding the language in the Keyboard just allows one to TYPE those characters. Nothing I have tried so far seems to allow one to automatically view the Greek character set unless it was done in the initial installation setup.

    Thanks for the reply!!

    Hi Wolf,

I did not mean to give you the impression that I knew anything about this. I was merely offering a link that I thought might help, sort of a reading material to thumb through while waiting for someone who knew exactly how or even if this can be done without a reinstall and setting it up this way as the default from the get-go.

This is such a seldom seen request, I figured it might take a while before just the right member found his or her way in here, to save the day.

I'm going to bump this post back up to the top of the board and give it a little more time before I use the nearest computer, running win98, as a Guinea-pig. Guess I can do an experimental walk through the steps and procedures needed to do this as time and interest permit.

Hang in there, that special board member may be out there yet. At this point they may be saving both of us.
