    Hi there,
I've uninstalled cyber patrol and now my windows cannot boot up. Can anyone provide me an alternative of getting into my windows without having to reformat my hard disk and reinstall my windows again. I have a lot of programs and files in there. I tried using safe mode to get into windows but failed. How can i know what are the files affected that is needed for windows to start up.

    regards,

If you had SCANREG running in the background (which is default) you can boot to DOS and type in SCANREG at the DOS Prompt.

Hopefully, you will see backup versions of your registery. Choose one that was BEFORE your problems.

This will restore your registory to THE DATE that you choose. If for example you choose a date prior to the removal of your software, you will probably boot.

    Good Luck!

If you restore your registry to before the date you uninstalled Cyber Patrol, other problems may result. If it does boot, you will need Regcleaner.
If you have not restored the registry to a previous date, what messages are appearing on the screen? Windows will put a message on the screen if a file is needed and is not found to boot windows.
If you have a MS Windows CD, not a recovery cd, you can install windows on top of itself, and not lose your installed programs and files.

    NO need to format.

I agree. This is best if it can be done.

Even a scanreg /restore may not fix this because it WILL NOT replace any ( what may be ) missing files. It only replaces references ( pointers ) to those files.

For me the best way that has always worked is to format a 1.44 system disk with CDROM drivers on, boot from this disk then copy the win98 folder from your legal copy of win98se to the same folder on the harddisk, then goto the folder on the harddisk and run setup from the folder on the harddisk. When the windows install asks which directory to use then use the same directory as is indicated. If it complains that you already have windows installed then goto the windows folder on your hdisk & rename the win.com file to win.old. Now redo the setup from the win98 folder.

Using scanreg always creates all kinds of other problems.

    Best of luck.

    Charles :)

    If left to itself YES.

But if USER controlled and kept up to date NO.

That is one of the things in 98 that the USER can and MUST control.

Yes you can get into windows and recover your missing files. Download this free program "Disk Investigator" and follow the instructions. Go here:

Thanks guys...appreciate all your help...I've used the conventional way to recover my data by taking out the hard disk and make it a slave drive and copy it to another computer. I've gave up on win98...and now i'm on win 2000. It was a good experience though..
