Shutting down Windows 98-98SE must have one of the most queries on this Forum. I have had Shutdown problems at more than one occasion and have placed them here.
As little as 3 weeks ago I was having problems with my shutdown with windows hanging at the windows shutdown screen and only a double shutdown would work.
I am using 3 AV programs Norton "“ Nod 32 "“ Trend Micro, but only Nod 32 is running in the background, the other 2 are for double checking. I also use Trojan Remover and at my previous Virus & Trojan check-up only Trend Micro warned me of a Trojan on my system JS noclose I assumed as Norton and Nod 32 and Trojan Remover had their files just updated that Trend Micro must be having it wrong. Also it was not able to remove it, so I just left it. 8 day’s ago I updated my AV files again and after scanning all 3 Norton Trend Micro and Nod 32 warned me of JSnoclose on my system Norton was able to Quarantine the Virus, it was quoted as not malicious, a mild Virus.
To my surprise though after Quarantining JSnoclose my PC is once again shutting down properly with no problems and has been doing so for more than a week now.
I had spent many hours trying to fix my shutdown problems I cleaned my system using Mike Flyn’s proven clean up method plus many more tips from this Forum all to no avail. Just a more or less harmless Trojan.
    Happy hunting

    You have said it ALL.

One sure way that has worked for me is to setup Windows to shutdown when I press the Power button & it works more times than not. Provided your PC uses and ATX power supply.

As has been said before happy Hunting.

    Rgds.
