Can anyone tell me how to permanently disable the XP Auto Arrange function, system-wide.
I believe it's a Regedit job, but I cannot find the string/value anywhere.
    Many thanks.

Open My Computer. Right-click in an empty space and uncheck Autoarrange. Set the folder as you would like all your folders to be, then open Tools, Folder Options, View and click the "Apply to all folders" button.

Or, try running regedt32 and navigating to this key:
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Program Manager\Settings

Change the value of the REG_DWORD, AutoArrange, to 0.

    Thanks Abraxas

That Registry setting was just what I've been looking for.
    Thanks again.

Since I didn't want to restart when I tried it, please let me know if it works. ;)
I'm pretty sure a restart is necessary.

    Re Restart.

It seemed to be working OK without a restart, but I ran one anyway, and yes, it seems to work fine both for existing folders, newly created ones and imported network folders as well.
You've been a big help, as that AutoArrange feature was doing my head in.

    Cheers.
