Sounds like a corrupted FAT or a corrupted partition table.

Did you FDisk this drive, set up partitions and format this drive in another computer or did you do it in the computer it is running in now?

If you did these things in another computer, you may have to do it over in the one it is running in now. Another thing to check (if you set it up in the current machine) is that the BIOS settings are the same for the position it is in now (Master, Slave, etc.) as it was in the previous position. To be clear, is it set for LBA, Large or whatever.

    hard drive

Thanks for reply. this drive was set up in this machine, and worked fine for a month or so, intended to use it for back up of master drive and also for video editing (low key stuff).

so nothing has been changed to my knowledge.
System properties shows it as using pio instead of ultraDMA - don't know if that is significant.

Yes, I wondered about FAT and partition table. Oddly, I had that problem with my last slave drive, which is why I replaced it with this one.

Aafter replacing it, someone told me about a way of rebuilding it, but it was too late by then and I can't remember what they said.

Don't know if that helps - ? Thanks for your interest.

I have the same problem on second physical hardfile on which F & G drives are defined. Was able to define a new folder earlier today.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I'd try scandisk first.

Tried scandisk, just hangs, progress bar goes for a few seconds and then stops.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for your interest. Much appreciated.

Then I have a radical solution for you. Backup your data and format the harddisk... This should help unless your HDD is physically damaged.
