    Hey All,

First of all I apologize for the Nebulous Subject heading.. I didn't know what else to call it

    I have a question??

I have two versions of Microstation loaded on my computer at work... version J and version 8 (v8)

Because Microstation V8 was installed more recently, whenever I double click on a file, by default it loads the drawing in Microstation V8.

I want the drawings to load, by default, in Microstation J.

How do I change the pointer to load the Microstation J drawings rather than the V8.

They both have the same extension of .DGN

    ---------

Also, are there any other good Windows Forums around?? ;)

    ---------

    Thanks,

    Bud

Don't tell me you want to go elsewhere for help.

In any case, to change which program opens a particular file type is fairly simple. Go into Windows Explorer, double click on my computer for instance, and select Tool->Folder Options and click on the file Types tab. Here you can modify the program that any file type is opened with.

    Still not working

I did try this and it still won't work.

I think both exe programs are named the same, even though they are in different program directories. The funny thing is that the icon next to the drawing in the directory is the version J icon. Why it would continue to open the drawing in v8 is a mystery.

A coworker solved the problem by renaming the exe in the v8 directory so that the pointer couldn't find it. It then jumped back to version J and opened correctly.

I even did a search and pointed it to the exe program in the J directory.. but it still opened the v8 version.

    Still taking suggestions

    Thanks,

    Bud

Since this is an application issue, I'm moving the topic there. Lots of the apps folks never look in here.
