It has really improved a lot. WMP9 pops right up so I don't use 6.4 as default any more (Win XP). It only connects to the internet if you choose the option for it to find CD information on the internet.

    Getting better.

I think the problems that daviec had were due to nothing other than a corrupted Windows ME Operating System.

When I had ME for a short time ( very short ) I had all kinds of problems with installing things.

Very few ( if any ) in 98 SE.

And I if I do have a problem it was usually 95% Operator error.

Me would not ( will not ) take the beating the SE will ( does )

I agree. I've absolutley no doubt now my ME was just corrupt beyond repair. The fact that the problem meant I couldn't even re-install it is quite worrying.

Hopefully I'll have a better time with XP, but ominously I'm already having bother installing my modem

And re: the new wmp. I'll probably start using it at first. The thing about my nice new install of Windows is that I don't want anything upsetting it, so I'll probably shy away from 3rd party stuff for a while.

It won't last long though :D

HAHAHA U R right ( opposite of left or wrong ) on both counts.

    And good luck with XP.

But as to the Modem. You are not alone there. Many users are having the same problem.

I know it's off topic now, but I managed to install the modem eventually despite XP warning me as I went through it manually, that the driver may not match the hardware!!

Seems to be working no problem now.
