I'm working with some W2k Machines in a workgroup. I want to migrate the central PC from a P-II to a P4, so I installed a new W2k on the P4 (P-II image crashes on boot in P4).

Now I want to move the User Profiles of the P-II to P4. So I created the same User names on P4, and I copied them (overwriting created files) from P-II to P4 (including NTuser.dat etc).

Unfortunately those copied user profiles are working properly only, when I log in as User ABC with Admin rights. All modifications to the access rights were not succesful.

Where's the mistake in my plan, and/or is there a better way to migrate ?

    Thanks in advance !

... thanks a lot. I remember I already tried this path, and I got the same result ...:

After Login as User with the new old profile, Windows Explorer crashes immediately, restarts, and crashes, and restarts, ...

When I give the User Admin-rights, everything's working properly.
But I will not have 10 Admins on the machine ...

Even setting Ownership and access rights to the specific User and/or everyone does not help.

Any suggestions (I know the best: every User should setup again his specific environment ... ;-)) ).

    Thanks in advance !

Take a look Here and see if you think you may have run into the problem they offer a fix for.

Thanks a lot, but also this is not working. I finally decided to let the users do a piece of useful work, and created new, clean accounts for them.
As side effect the Users hopefully minimize their settings and docs section.

Next post ... will appear soon!
