    What is SQL Server Service?
All of a sudden I have a SQL Server Service Manager icon in my systray. What is it and what does it do? I did not notice it until I loaded Microsoft's Picture It.

mojo13 - I can answer exactly what you asked but I doubt it will be very helpful.

SQL Server Service Manager is a little applet to allow you to stop and start the 3 main services that make up Microsoft SQL Server - their industrial strength database application. Sort of MS Access on steroids.

SQL Server Service is the main service required to run the above database program.

I can't for the life of me figure out how Picture It would have anything to do with those items showing up. Or how you could accidently wind up with a fairly expensive dB product loaded.

fairly expensive dB product loaded ???

I don't recall loading this program and the only thing I've loaded is Picture It. I have been experimenting with web pages lately, but don't think it has anything to do with it either. What kind of a price tag would be on this SQL thing?

You can probably find a copy for a little over $1,000 but only if you want bare bones and a very limited number of client licenses.

The more usual starter version /w 25 client licenses is around $2,100.

Well I can't tell you what I did to get it, but now that I have it I need to find a way to back it up. Sounds like I may be able to use it someday (for something). :D

I looked at the properties of the program folder and it was created on Sunday, February 23, 2003, 12:27:18 PM. I can't find the download file for it though.
