I noticed that a lot of experienced members use GoBack. I have had the program (uninstalled) that came with Norton's System Works CD for a year or so, never installed 'till about two weeks ago since I saw more experienced members noted using it in their posts. Had a crash with no boot, no access to system restore in XP Home, I decided to install GoBack. It installed and worked as per it's hype.

The read me for GoBack says if you are making changes to Hard Drives, new drive, format, convert, etc. you should uninstall GoBack and re-install after changes made. I had to reformat a drive and uninstalled GoBack. Used GoBack uninstall.

After formating (drive F) I tried to re-install GoBack. The set up program opens, Says it is going to install, new window pops up, "Deleting program files and registry entries" Next window pops up, says: "GoBack has been successfuly uninstalled from your system" Repeated attempts, same behavior, no install.

I have searched for any registry entries that might be causing this behavior and can't find any. (that doesn't mean nothing there) Seached Roxio's site, downloaded new setup file, same results. Searched Roxio's help files, can't find specifics.

I really liked the ability to restore XP prior to boot, I sure would like to get this program to work again.

Anybody who can help, I would appreciate, absolutely no faith in System Restore.

Call up this link to the GoBack Knowledgebase and take a look at the third link from the bottom on the right hand side.

    :)

Hi Zephyr: Once again Windows bbs to the rescue. Went there, found that, did that, GoBack now installed and working.:)

I don't understand why I couldn't find that link at Roxio. Stupid?, Lazy?, Impatient? Maybe Stupid, Lazy & Impatient! I thought I did a thorough search both there and my registry, I guess not.

Anyhow, another question, calling on your expertise, brilliant mind and generous spirit: Keep or disable System Restore? Lots of disk space gone to the two programs. A heged answer is OK!:D

    Many thanks

No question about it, disable System Restore.

    Cheers. :)

    Jeez, it's always something!

Now I have GoBack installed and working, System Restore disabled. But, but, but: Now, machine takes forever to start, I have constant hard drive activity and hourglass icon "working in background" displayed intermittantly slowing down this machine to a crawl.:( This keeps up for about 6-7 minutes after re-start before hard drive light stops blinking.

I gotta assume this must be GoBack at work???? If it is, I really don't know if it is worth the trade off.
