I can not get Win2000 to logoff or shutdown in any reasonable time frame. It is making me CRAZY.....It takes a minimum of 2-3 minutes, and sometimes longer. I've searched databases, removed some service packs (I don't know much about registry editing), and I can't fix it. Additionally, I can't get into safe mode on startup using F8, so I cant restore to last known good config..Please, can someone help.?? I really don't need the hassle of taking this pig in for service!

It's hard to say exactly what's going on there without more information. I would be curious about what processes are running. If you hit ctrl+shift+esc and make a list of of what shows on the processes tab, it might help. You might want to remove any recently installed programs to see if one of them caused a problem, and run a virusscan. If you don't have virusscan software, go to housecall.antivirus.com for a free scan.

yes, I just started having this problem too.
It occurred after I tried to install MS Office 2000 updates (SP3) - which was unsuccessful, because I had the wrong version of the Office 2000 CD, required during the update.

Later, the problem has gone away! Although I have restarted the computer several times since it appeared, after the latest one everything returned to normal. The only thing that has changed is that this morning, I installed all of the outstanding Win2000 patches and updates (I was already at SP3 level when the problem occurred).

    Good luck!
