Just started using XP Home - and I find that I can't copy and paste a jpeg image from "My Pictures" to an email or word document. I have some GIF images in "My Documents" and I can't copy them either. The images just don't copy to the clipboard. If I try to copy from the thumbnail - doesn't work. If I open up the image in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer then I get a menu for "Copy TO" and menu doesn't include the clipboard. I can copy text and pics from a web page - onto the clipboard - and then into email. So, why can't I copy from My Pictures? It's not a big deal because I CAN "Insert" and "Attach" - but I know I could "Copy" when I was using 98SE, and I just can't figure out why I can't do it with XP. My XP has been updated with SP1 and all current updates. Would appreciate if someone could clear my mind on this. Cliff

    Hi chgo29
I'm only here to offer my sympathies. :D I'm running XP pro, and tried as you, to copy and paste. You're correct. It won't work. All other functions, such as "send to mail recipient" Or, drag and drop, work. Jut not copy and paste. Odd.

Interesting. I have XP Home and tried to copy/paste a picture from a web page into mail and when I sent it to myself it worked ok, but everyone else got a red X. I resent it to myself and got the red X, too. Had to send the picture as an attachment. Sounds like we have an XP glitch.

Panda.... the only way that would work is to right click the picture and choose to "Email picture ".

    Something strange going on here.

I can copy (either a right-click~copy or CTRL-C) a pic and paste it fine into a word document (office XP). I can paste it into an Outlook email but it attaches it. Don't have OE here so can't try that one.

So why is it working fine (me), working sorta (someone, surely) and not working for you folks?

Daizy...believe it or not, that is how we did it. I sent it to myself first, then forwarded it to everyone on my email list. When I did that, it only was going to send itself as an attachment, so I did a copy/paste and pasted the pictures into the emails and then deleted the attachment. They only got the red X so I grabbed the original email and just sent the attachment which they all received ok. Go figure.

Try this. Right click to copy the picture then open a new HTML email. At the top click on insert and down towards the bottom it says Picture. A box pops up, and you can browse to the picture.

    Maggie.

This is how I usually do it when sending graphics that have been saved to my computer. This was from a web page and it just seemed interesting that it didn't insert itself correctly. I'm thinking that maybe I just did something wrong. Or, there is a mystery about html tags. Never did fully understand those thing. LOL.

    Thanks for the tip, though.

I don't have any idea why it won't work in plain text. Picture option is grayed out! I think it happened when OE changed to 6. I used to be able to copy and paste!

In M$ Word or Word editor in Outlook, you have to go to the pull-down menu-> |Insert|Picture|From File| unless you do the following:

Open the graphics file with M$ Photo Editor (or eq.), select the part of graphic you want, copy to clipboard, and then paste as a bit-map into most anything.

    Good luck
