    A for floppy.
B for floppy, though not used much any more.
    C for boot partition.
    23 more....minus your optical drive(s).
You can use up to 256 partitions, but they have to be mapped via networking, you can't just partition a drive and expect the letters to go: X, Y, Z, A0, A1, etc... or AA, AB, AC...or CA, CB, CC, CD, CE...

Hint: if you make your CD-ROM as "R" for Reader, your burner "W" for Writer, and DVD as V (for lack of a better letter), then you can add or remove drives and partitions all you want, and the optical device letters will never change. Very handy for those shortcuts that point to a CD-ROM, but get moved up a letter if you add a partition. Also easier to keep track of what disk is in which drive.

    You are so right reboot.

I found that out when I bought a new drive, & got brave, & started installing three separate OS's on it, plus hooked the old drive up as a slave with 2 OS's on it, and made extra logical partitions on both drives.

Didn't take long to figure out that I needed to re-name the burner & player to Y & Z. :D
