When I open OE 6 my emails are downloaded as usual. However, if I click on the message ' There are x unread messages in your inbox' nothing happens even though the cursor turns into a hand when it's placed over these words. I then have to go to the 'Folders' window on the left and click on the 'Inbox' and that opens things up. Also, if I click on an underlined link that I've received in a message nothing happens there either. I have to select it and choose 'Copy shortcut' and then paste it into Internet Explorer. I'm wondering what might be the problem here in these two situations? Thank you.

After doing a search on this forum and following some directions both here and on Microsoft's Knowledge Base, here's the procedure I had to use to fix the same problem. (Everywhere you see "(None)," I added because that's the way the entries appear on my File Types list.)

    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
    2. Click Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click File Types.
    3. In the Registered File Types box, click (None) URL:File Transfer Protocol, and then click the Advanced button.
    4. In the Actions box, click Open, and then click Edit.
    5. The Application Used To Perform Action box may display the path to your Web browser as a short file name. Type the path to your Web browser using the full long file name. For example, change:

    c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe

    -to-

    c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (include the quotation marks).

    6. The DDE Message field should contain "%1 ",,-1,0,,,, (with the quote at the beginning)
    7. Application field: IExplore
    8. DDE Application Not Running field remains blank
    9. Topic field should contain WWW_OpenURL (mine had "System" in it and changing that fixed the problem)
    10. Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
    11. I didn't have to do any more than that but if yours still doesn't work properly, repeat the steps for the following registered file types:
    (None) URL:Gopher Protocol
    (None) URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
(None) URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy

Thanks very much, Miz. I'll take some time tomorrow to go through the procedures and will report back.

Success! Yes, Miz, I followed the procedure outlined in your post for the file types mentioned and am now able to open links received in OE 6. The 'hand' hovering over 'You have x unread messages...' still doesn't open to the inbox but I've worked around that by enabling 'Go directly to my inbox when opening OE'. Many thanks for your help!
