Well, that didn't work either. "sigh "

If it were every 300 seconds, (five minutes) it would not be so freaky, but it is twice, to three times that frequent. It averages out to about every two minutes in a 30 minute period. Sometimes less than every two minutes. I just don't like the idea that something, someone may be messing with my comp. No one else seems to be having this critter problem.

None of my security programs finds a darn thing, except the one AdAware found, and apparently that wasn't it.

Will try the IE repair next. I seem to have run low on options.

Am plodding onward. If all else fails, I will replace OS with pristine back-up image. Hopefully that would cure it!

See the little animated ad banner at the bottom of the page? See if your ticks co-inside with the banner switch. I get a tick when the add changes, just about every 2 or 3 minutes. No big deal I don't even notice it, maybe because I know what it is.

You won't see the animated banner because you're a contributing member. No ads for those that contribute. Deloris, watch the banner that Ann mentioned. I still think this is what's happening. Sorry I couldn't point you to it earlier but I don't get the ads so I didn't know where to look.

Don't feel alone. I too experience the same problem on this site. I don't hear any sound associated with the activity because I have no sound associated with navigation, but I do see the hourglass, the progress bar move across the bottom of the screen and the word Done when its finished. Other than the post that I made in this thread on the 17th I've sat quietly back waiting to see what solutions others would come with. But like you, none of them have resolved the problem. I too think that it is somehow connected to the rotating banner ad at the bottom of the page, but it doesn't seem to always coincide with the changing of the ad.

    Zephyr in one of your posts you wrote;
    How are you checking this?

Just let the site load normally and when it completes, right click and select "View Source." That will open the script code of the page up in your chosen HTML editor. It's Java script and here's an excerpt from near the end:

    src='http://www.infinisource.com/adserver/adframe.php?n=a1c3733d&clientid=24&target=_blank&refresh=300'

Then I timed the apparent disk action and it coincided with 300 seconds. Voila!

It was filling my GoBack history up in short order when I first reported it. It seemed to be refreshing at a rate closer to 30 seconds at that time. Since I have IE, I placed infinisource.com in the Privacy site list and chose to "Always Block." That doesn't stop it from occuring but it does prevent it from writing to my disk. I understand the necessity for advertising but it was so frequent that I decided to complain. Since Arie said he had no control over it, I chose to control it somewhat myself.

Tried as you suggested but absolutly nothing happens. I have MS Word set as my HTML editor in Tools|Internet Options|Programs. Have also tried opening from the the toolbar View|Source.

    Any ideas?

Rod, It can be tricky but if you load the page in a certain manner, the source code is available. Try using this and perhaps you'll get there easier.

    Rod,

I had the same problem. Right click and under view source there is encoding. Selected auto and now notepad opens with the source.

Zephyr, now you've opened up a whole new can of worms here. I've never been able to check the code on this bbs. Ever since the board got hacked and they went to the new bbs software I've never been able to use the edit feature in IE. While on this board it's always greyed out. I always assumed it probably had something to do with the code used. Hmmm. It's no big deal but now I'll have to try to find out why. Just because. :D

Tried it from the link to the main page you suggested. But still no luck.

    Bmoore1129:

That did the trick. Thank you. I was afraid there for a minute that something was messed up. :D

Don't work for me! All it does is throw up a quick dialog box that disappears before you have a chance to say yes or not to whaever it is saying. So fast I can't read anything but the yes & No buttons. :)

I have no idea what ad banner you all are talking about. I don't see any ad banner at the bottom of the page, or anywhere else, until I hit the post reply button, then it chages to the page with an ad on it. Can I really be that blind? :D I am not a contributing member either, so I should be seeing those ads at the bottom, right?

    Now I am really bumfuzzled!

Well, I am still working on the problem. Still trying different stuff, trying not to have to get radical. :D

Just seems strange to me that I never noticed this happening at all until about a couple of weeks ago, and I am pretty observant when it comes to things that I am not used to suddenly starting to happen for no apparent reason.

One reason, but not the only one, that I can't seem to accept this behavior is because it DOES NOT coincide in the least to what Zepher said the encoded timing is in the source code. Nowhere near it. It's much more often. 2 to 3 times as often in fact. Five times in five minutes is a bit much. That's what's happening RIGHT NOW. That's another thing that is disconcerting. It is never the same, no matter when I logon to the BBS. It is different each time. 15 in 30 minutes one time. Another time, 20 in 30 minutes. Another time even more, but always at least 15. Plus it happens alternately on all the pages I have open at the time. Usually three.

    Really strange!

    OK.

I finally found the freaking little ad-banners everyone is talking about. :D Didn't even realize they were there.

I just don't ever scroll down that far on the page. Therefore I don't see them. :p

I usually have 3 BBS pages open at the same time, so I can close out without hitting the back button.

I arranged the pages so I could watch all three banner ads at the same time. The clicks do seem to coincide with the ads changing, and since I have three pages open at once, the clicks are more often. Sound reasonable to you all?

This seems to be the case.

I certainly appreciate everyone being soooooo patient with my paranoia attack. I really feel like a dummy now :D, but if this experience has helped someone else understand it, if it is happening to them, & they are wondering what the heck is going on, then it was worth my looking like a mental dipstick. :D :D

No, I'm not blonde. I'm a natural auburn red. :D

Thanks again soooo much everyone. Problem seems to have come to a conclusion. :)

i'm glad you ID'd the prob... it's such a drag to have stuff like that going on and not know the reason or the source. it's good that you kept digging until you found the answer

also good that you didn't run ie repair tool needlessly
