How to use Raid?

    Hello,
    Building new computer, to replace old one.New comp. has Raid 1 capabilities. Want to format and partition new HD, install OS.[98SE], modem, download all updates, before I shutdown old comp. Want to keep old comp. up as long as possible. Then, remove HD which I want to format,and partition to use for the #2 HD of the Raid 1 Function.
    Should I enable Raid on the new comp for the first HD., without the second HD hooked up?
    When I add second HD to the Raid1 function, will it automatically mirrow the first HD?
    All help appricated.

    RAID 1 has to have the two disks when you set up the RAID - you cant build the O/S and then add 2nd disk later
