    Hey Folks...

I need some help in Windows XP Registry.

I installed a program and when Windows XP Pro boots up.
    I get an open window "C:\Program Files\Program. There's
    nothing in that folder.

I have searched the registry with several applications but
    unsucessful in removing this 'annoyance'.

I have also looked under "startup" and even went to "msconfig ".

I am happy to try any suggestion.

    Thanks
    Dave

I´ve had this happen on Win98 when an application gets installed to a different folder than the normal one.

On that PC there´s a folder "Program" where installation normally puts the applications.
When the installer suggests and you accept a different folder, then the installer creates this folder, e.g. "Program Files ", and puts the application there.
After that, this explorer window always appears on bootup.

Uninstalling the application and removing the new (annoying) folder and reinstalling the application to the normal folder solves the problem, well, on Win98 at least.

    Hope this helps,
    Christer

    Edited:

I think that Your folder names are the opposite of mine, Your normal folder is "Program Files" and the annoying folder is "Program ".

    Lots of places to check.

For one thing, you will have several startup folders. Not only your user account but the "all users ".

Possibly (not likely but possibly) win.ini

    And
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
    Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows (the run and load keys)
