file transfer wizard

    Im trying to transfer files from my old computer to the new one using the transfer wizard...do everything it says...get to where it is trying to establish a connection and it just searches forever....what gives? new puter is xp old on is 98. hooked by serial ports like it says to....any help is appreciated

    Probably the wrong wiring on your serial cable. You need a null modem cable.

    Take a look Here and see if yours is pinned out the same way.

    Thanks..ill try to find a null cable. Live in small town Wyoming..wont be easy..lol

    Thanks for the help...i just unhooked the cd-rw and hooked my old hard drive in its place..worked great. thanks

    Excellent. Glad you figured a fix and yours was certainly faster than a serial "network" connection would have been.

    If you intend to keep both PCs and do want them talking, I'd suggest a couple of network cards and suitable cable. Much faster connection. But again, if you are going to connect them directly, you have to use a special cable with several wire pairs crossed. Sorta the ethernet equiv of a null modem.
