I'm attempting to use Microsoft's "Save My Settings" Wizard to save my Office 2000 settings.

After signing in and supplying my email address, password and password reminder, the Wizard first of all creates all the files it needs to upload.

At this point the Wizard starts to upload my settings telling me the size of the file is 264KB.

Whilst uploading the settings I get an error message saying "There was a problem saving your profile to the server" and inviting me to try again.

Despite numerous retries it never successfully uploads my settings.

Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong?

    Thanks.

    Steve

    Welcome to WindowsBBS:)

"There was a problem saving your profile to the server"

Are you connected to a server or is this a stand alone machine?

I'm running on a stand-alone laptop with Windows/ME dialled up to my ISP.

if you aren't connected to a server you can't save your settings to something you aren't connected to. What settings are you trying to save? When you installed the program did it ask if you were on a server?

I'm using Microsoft's Office Tools "Save My Settings Wizard" which collects all your Office settings and then uploads them to a Microsoft server.

Despite attempts to uninstall and then re-install the "Save My Settings" Wizard, it continually fails during the course of uploading my information to Microsoft's server.

I had thought it might have been due to the way I was connected to the Internet (i.e. via a cable connect behind an residential gateway) but then when I tried a good-old dial up connection it failed in exactly the same manner.
