Hi I havn't been using the net long and I was doing ok until...Last week I logged on and I couldn't get any pages or my email it appears that I am not connected to the net but I am. I have checked all my settings with my provider and they say the problem is with me not the settings. The only thing I did was install Incrediail and I have since uninstalled it but still have this problem. I would be grateful for any help.

petron39--My initial reactions are "How do you know you are connected to the net? What window do you see when you think you are? What do you do to try to access a web page that is is not working? What connection do you have (dialup, DSL,cable)? "
However, assuming that you are connected, here are some comments.
Having uninstalled Incredimail really should not affect your being able to access the net, but, just in case, click IE Tools|Internet Options|Programs tab. What is entered in the E-Mail line? If it says Incredimail, click the down arrow in the E-Mail line, and with luck you will be offered another email program (like Outlook Express) to set as the default email program. Click on that program. Click Apply|OK. That should at least take care of the email problem, if not the internet problem. Any luck?
(If, however, you have no other choice except for Incredimail, you are going to have to download and install another email program. Post back if you need help with that.)

If no luck with the web, perhaps IE is not your default browser. On that same Programs tab, at the bottom, you should see a box to check that says "Internet Explorer should check whether it is the default browser ". Check that box, click Apply|OK|reboot. The next time you open your Internet connection, you should get a window asking if you want IE to be your default browser. Say Yes.
    Any luck now?
If not, it may be best to have answers to the questions I posed at the beginning to narrow the possibilities, but here are two quick things to consider.
    1) If you use a pop-up stopper, disable it.
    2) Run Internet Explorer Repair

Welshjim thanks for your reply I followed your instructions but it did not help, outlook Express and IE where set as defaults. I am using Norton's Internet Security 2003 and I have disabled the Pop-up section. I cannot run Internet Explorer repair cause I can't get any pages.
I am using a Dialup connection and when I log on I have my two computer Icon appear in my taskbar. It clocks over the time I am connected so I presume I am connected. I then click on my IE icon and the internet explorer page comes up but it always says "Cannot find server" almost imediately so I type in net adddresses for other sites and it still says "Cannot find server" and I have tried some pages in my Favorites still nothing. The same thing is happening in Outlook Express It comes up but when it tries to log on to get mail it comes back with error message. It seems to me that my computer is not regeristing the fact that there is an internet connection so responds as if I was offline. I have now checked with my provider 3 times and my settings are correct. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

    petron39 Hi

Am I correct in assuning you'r connection and everything worked ok, till you installed Incrediail ?
How are you able to post here???

I dont know norton --But would you turn of everything off temporaraly and then try setting ie as the defaul connection
before connecting after a fresh boot going to control panel
internet options on the connection tab never dial a connection on the programs tab once again internet explorer should check to see if its the default connection--then use the reset web settings
button--again if you've already done so
On the first page of internet options use the delete files button
and then again and check the box that pops up delete offline content
On the security tab --set to default --or- default level

Remember when setting this dont use the X button to close any window always ok --the way back to desktop ..

    " " "I cannot run Internet Explorer repair cause I can't get any pages." " "
    what ?

go to control panel addremove find ie and choose uninstall an option will (should) appear to repair go ahead and do this.
    Let us know ?

    Lonny

petron39--It certainly sounds like you are doing everything correctly.
    At least, you are trying.
I wonder about your ISP. Do you pay for the internet/email service? (If they cannot get you online, you are not getting much for your money.) Do you have a choice of ISP? (Do you have cable available?) If yes to the latter, I suggest you try using another ISP and/or broadband service.
If you have no choice, have you already tried the following?
    1) Start|Run|type winipcfg\click OK. (You have not told us what version of Windows you are running. You may have to type ipconfig instead.)
In the next window, right under "Ethernet Adapter Info" click the down arrow to enter the name of your DSL connection in the line. I assume, with DSL, you are supposed to be connected to the Internet "all the time ". Then click Release All, and wait a moment until any whirring stops. Then click Renew All. Again wait. If asked to reboot do so. Any luck?
    2) Has your present ISP's Tech Support said or done anything about whether you are supposed to set up to use a Proxy Server? Have you been to IE Tools|Interent Options| Connections| click on "LAN Settings "? You will see that Proxy Server settings can be made there. You will need Tech Support to tell you what should appear there, if anything.
    3) Has your present ISP Tech Support had you run a ping command to confirm that you are connected? If not, ask them to run you through that.
If none of this helps, I hope someone else more knowledgeable will join in.
Alternatively you could post your problem on the DSLReports Forums BBS.
    http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all
(I think you want the "Broadband" area.)
    Good Luck!!
