    Hi,
I've got a windows 2000 problem with a p.c. i built for a friend a while ago, it's been fine for about 8 months but now when booting up, it says disk G: needs to be checked for consisitancy and once this is complete it reboots and goes through
the whole process again. it also does the same in safe mode.
I've got the boot log file, but am not 100% sure how to use this to fault find the actual cause by using this ; /
The machine has three partitions, it's the third, G: that needs to be checked every boot and I've installed another copy of win2k on the second partition, D: which works fine.
Can anyone give me some pointers on trying to fix the existing win2k installation?
    Many thanks in advance

    Chris

    Hi Chris

Don't know what happend but the below should fix it if you have the disk space.

Make folder on one of your good drives using the new 2k, call it GDRIVE. Then copy all g: files and folders to this folder temporarilly and remove format the g: drive. Then reboot before puting files back.

First I'd boot from the CD, get to the recovery console, and then

    chkdsk g: /r

The /r switch does a more complete job of examination and repair than the /f switch. And if you are booted from the CD, there shouldn't be problems repairing any problems found on the hard drive.

    Hi Spota

I assumed that you were doing a chkdsk/r so if you were not do this as Newt suggests before resorting to my suggestion.
