HiYa all,, I'm hoping someone can help otherwise my pC's gonna get tossed out the nearest window!

I installed a 32mb Savage4 graphics card an upgrade form a Vodoo3 16mb, got all the latest drivers and everything works fine EXCEPT!! when it comes to games, they all run jerky and jumpy and some try to startup and then just crash, when they crash i'm thrown back to the desktop where the icons are so large that i have to change the reolution back to normal.
If i re-install the vodoo everythings work great!

I have done defrags, cleansweeps and virus scans but nothing seems to make it any beter.

Reads very much like a Video card not being installed Properly.

Are any required MotherBoard drivers installed ? AGP may not work properly without them. If by chance Windows has been re-installed, MB drivers need to be re-installed again.

I see no mention of what OS you are using so I will use suggestions for WIn98.

1st of all make sure you have the proper version of drivers for YOUR VERSION OF WINDOWS. All three versions of Win98 MAY use different drivers. Most so call Universal drivers ( even the ones shipped with card ) S***.

In any case I suggest booting into the safe mode and removing any and all Display adapters.

Shut the machine down ( power off ) wait 30 seconds and restart.

When Windows finds the card allow it to install as a Standard PCI/AGP VGA adapter using the windows default standard drivers.

Then restart Windows a couple of times and then upgrade the Video drivers.

Many of the newer video cards need to be installed this way. ( both of mine did )

Also *SOME * games may need to be re-installed to use the new ( and quite different ) video crad.

Last but certainly not least. Make sure you have the proper version of Directx.

BB covered it, I'd say. One more thing, I noticed in my BIOS the option to set AGP to either 2x or 4x. Make sure that is set correctly as well.

Unfortunately, there's never been a clean uninstall for 3dfx drivers like there is for Nvidia. Go to C:\Windows and delete every file that's voodoo-related. I won't presume to remember what letters they all start with but they all have the same 3 or 4 letters. You might want to try removing all references to them in your registry if you're confident about editing your registry.

    OUCH

Thank you Chiles4 for the wake up call.

I should have thought of that as I had the same problem going from a PCI Voodoo to an AGP Prophet II.

Go to the Windows\inf folder and windows\inf\other and remove ALL references to the old AND the NEW video cards then start over using the suggestions in my earlier reply.

    From a power off state.

Just cleaning the Registry will not do the job if the references are still in the inf folders.

But it is necessary to do BOTH. But do it in the safe mode.

Sorry for leaving out important info.
