After downloading the cumulative patch for IE6 I am no longer able to use internet explorer. When clicking on the icon, the box opens and I connect buy I receive the message that the page can not be found. I get this message to whatever page I try. The only way I have found to surf is to open My Computer and type in the address then hit enter. I don't know if it has anything to do with the patch or if it is a virus. I did run online virus scans, but they all came up clean. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried everything I can think of. I repaired, and reinstalled.

nelle--The simplest things to do are
    1) Delete your Temporary Internet Files
    2) Run Repair Internet Explorer . (Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|click on Tools|click on Repair Internet Explorer|wait.
However, if neither of these work, the official list of fixes is here

    Good luck!!

    Still no luck

I had done all those things you suggested and more before posting to this board. I went to the site you suggested and I need to search more on that support page. So far I have found notihing to help. I even tried reinstalling windows 98 and that did not help.

    "More Information About This Update
This bulletin was originally issued on February 5, 2003. Subsequent to its release, an issue was discovered with this update that could affect some users—primarily consumers—under certain conditions. Specifically, the issue could cause some users to be unable to authenticate to certain Web sites, such as subscription-based sites, or MSN® e-mail. This issue has been resolved, and a hotfix (813951) issued to correct it.

It is important to note that this hotfix corrects a very specific issue that does not concern security, and that the update did originally and does still correct the security-related issue discussed in this bulletin. More information, including details on how to obtain the hotfix, are available on the Internet Explorer Web site. "

    Virus maybe

I'm beginning to think this is a virus rather then something with the patch that I downloaded. I just can't figure out which virus it might be. I ran 2 online virus scans that came up with nothing. The 3rd one ai tried to run froze up my system.
