Have a situation on Windows XP Pro using O.E. 6 where it is not retaining the password for the isp. Now I have read the article from Microsofts web site # q264672 and honestly the article seems a little drastic.

On my test machine I have XP Pro and have no problems although my machine does not have sp1.

Has anyone seen this and is there a easier fix ???

Thanks ahead of time for your input.

    gghartman,

Just do it! Had the same problem with my HP laptop running XP Pro - followed 264672 to the letter - no problems since, and that was 6 months ago.

Was hoping for an easier way but if not will beat the bullet and follow the article.

Not sure why my 2000 and XP works but this other machine is not. Does not seem to be consistent problem.

According to the MS article :

"The Registry contains incorrect information for the Protected Storage System Provider registry subkey for your account "

That's probably why all is well on your other machine. My problem was pre SP1 so don't think that that comes into the equation.

Are you saying that you had sp1 and thats probably where the problem came from ???

My XP machine does not have sp1 and I have no problem.

NO - the problem arose before SP1 was available and was cured by following the directions in 264672. I subsequently installed SP1 and have had no further problems.

Like you the problem only arose on the laptop - my desktop - XP Pro + SP1 had no problems in this respect, nor did my development PC with multi boot to XP Pro SP1, Win ME and Win 98SE. All PC's have a Dial Up to the same ISP and O.E. 6.0X

I guess it's the luck of the draw! Incidentally I have 3 separate copies of XP Pro - 2 x 100% legal and 1 x 'legalised'.
