How can I change XP's startup and shutdown screens?

    How can I replace the startup and shutdown screens on Windows XP Pro?
    I know how to do and have done it it in Windows 98 but I don't see a way to do it in XP...
    Is there a way to do it?

    It's a little more involved in XP. Thre are no files similar to logos.sys, etc.

    The startup screen is part of ntoskrnl.exe. This file can be hacked, but Windows File Protection, reinstallation, etc. will replace it with the original.

    I'm not sure what you mean by the shutdown screen because I don't really see one that is similar to 98/ME. But the logon screens can be changed.

    The easiest and safest (since XP may not boot if ntoskrnl is damaged or replaced) is to use a program that changes these screens.
