    Hi jongru
Take a look at this thread.. Most likely you've got apps running in the background unneccessarily.

How often do you empty out your Temporary Internet folder? I do mine a lot.

Do you have your Internet Options set to check for new versions each time you visit a page, or what? That is located in Start\Settings\Control Panel\Internet Options, then click the settings tab where it says Temporary Internet Files on the General tab. You can also empty the Temporary Internet files from there, & set a maximum size for it as well.

Doing an IE Repair could solve the problem, if nothing else works.

It also helps to do regular disk maintenance. Scandisk & defrag.

Couple of quickies for you. Set your browser cache to 80 mb max and history to 2-3 days max. Clean em both out and as you were previously advised, go to add/remove programs and repair your browser (I'm assuming you are IE 5.1 or later - if not, upgrade) Lastly, if you are on a dial up connection, navigate to your registry (regedit from the run command) and head to the following HKey_Current User, Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, Internet Settings

Now create the following new DWord
    MaxConnectionsPerServer
    Set the value to 4

    Now create another new DWord
    MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
    Set the value to 6

Close up your registry and reboot. Try a little surfing now and post back your results. Again, these settings are for dialup, not DSL or Cable - Those tweaks might come a little later this evening.

    ;)

This is a program that fixes serious bugs in the Internet Explorer cache manager (versions 3.0
on up through and including Internet Explorer for Windows XP, and IE6). This program basically
takes over the job of managing the cache from Internet Explorer, and the result is your web
browsing session will be more enjoyable. CacheSentry isn't like those "web acceleration"
programs that hook into IE and attempt to make guesses about your browsing habits. CacheSentry
simply does a better job of removing files from the cache, and fixes a few other bugs present in
    most versions of Internet Explorer.

Thanks all for the advice. I just downloaded and installed JMatt's cachesentry. Will report back in a few days of the success. Also will follow Rockster2u's suggestion about modifying the registry.
Rockster2u, give me a quick lesson on the use of the Dword idea and an example. Thanks.....jongru

Click on the final name above ( Internet Settings ) & in a blank area on the Right hand side , right click & select new dword .
Copy & paste MaxConnectionsPerServer into the space provided .

Left click in a blank area to set .

Double click on it & Set the value to 4

    Click OK .

    Repeat for MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
    Set the value to 6

    Hi all,

Thank you so much for all the input. A little bit of each was done. I must admit that the CacheSentry and tweaks of the registry by Rockster2u dramatically sped the internet loading and running. Thanks, a great resource of talent....jongru

Jongru, you've not mentioned what Operating system you're running? Congratulations on getting things sped up. Did you ever get to msconfig's startup tab, and uncheck all unneccessary apps from loading at start up?

    Hi Daizy,

Yes, I did remove a lot of the start up programs. I was always afraid I was deleting the entire program. But, I found out that by deleting the start up in the start up menu programs I was just deleting the short cuts.

I am running Windows 98se with 384 mb athlon k6, 600mz. I am very satisfied that the speed is very fast. I have a feeling though that with 31,000 files and 1650 folders, this will tend to cause me to run a little slower, whatcha think??? jongru

Mostly what makes IE browser run slow on the Internet is the amout of files you have in the Temporary Internet Files folder that it searches through, & how you have your browser settings configured.

Sometimes things are just gonna be slow anyway, because of the amount of Internet traffic. If a site is getting an unusually large amount of hits, things will go slower.

Whenever you visit a web site, IE will automatically search through the files in the Temporary Internet Files folder "first" to see if it already has a copy of that web site. If it does already have a copy, and you don't have the IE browser settings configured a certain way, then it will open the file it has already got on the computer, instead of the web page itself. This can make a load faster, but not necessarily accurate. Especially on sites whose content changes daily. However, if there are many hundreds, or even thousands of files in the folder for it to look through first, searching for an existing copy to load, that can slow down everything a lot. At least that is the way I understand that it works. That's why I keep the Temporary Internet Files folder emptied, & make it load a new page on every visit. In many instances, I'd rather have accuracy any day.

In the Temporary Internet Files settings, it has a sentence, "Check for newer versions of stored pages." Then below that there are several options. I have mine set on never. That means that it will not check in the stored pages on your hard disk, but intead will load a fresh web page from the web server. At least I think that's how it works.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.

    Thanks Deloris

I will try what you suggest and let you know if that speeds things up a little faster. I think though with the 600 mhz processor and the ton of installed files, I will be satisfied with the changes you all have given me. thank you....jongru...
