I would like to know if there is another way to create new folders in Windows Explorer. It seems that the only way to do so is to use the mouse and click File-->New-->Folder. If you want to create more than one new folder at a time, you then have to go back to the folder under which you want to create a new one, highlight it, and start again. I seem to remember that previous versions of Windows had a "New" choice in the context menu that you get when you right-click on the folder under which you want to make a new (sub)folder. Once you clicked on "New ", one of the resulting choices was "Folder ". How can I add that to the right-click menu?

I hope you get an answer to this question. I've seen it asked for Win95 on up and have never read a solution to what should be a normal feature.

If I need to create a bunch of new folders, I still do it old-style with start~run~cmd and then the md command. And if you have to do it often enough, write a batch file that will take all the new folder names as input and then run a md for each.

I'm confused as to why you can't right click the open field on the right side after highlighting some folder and select NEW > FOLDER from the context menu presented. That's how mine works.

    Zephyr--

When I right click a folder in Windows Explorer, I get a context menu that includes the Open command (I'm stating this because I am not sure exactly what you are describing in your post). If I right click the Open command in that menu, I get the folder that was highlighted opened in a new window with a choice to create a New Folder. But this seems to me to be the exact same thing I was describing earlier-- going to File--> New-->, etc. What I am looking for is the New command in the menu that I get with a right click into the folder that I've highlighted. I do not get that in Windows (XP's) Explorer two-paned window.

    Thanks--

What I was describing was to right click anywhere in the blank area of the right hand pane and you'll get a completely different menu that has the NEW > FOLDER option on it.

Let me know if yours works differently. I don't think I added that option but maybe so.

    Zephyr,

Well I'll be... absolutely right you are! Thanks for the info-- it really didn't make sense that there wasn't a way to right click to make a New Folder.

    Thanks thanks thanks! :)
