    Internet Explorer 6 will drop off line after approx 1hr then redial and establish connection. then drops off and redials about every 5-10 minutes. have new US Robotics modem and checked all phone lines and connections. Is there a time out setting that tells IE to drop off after 1hr? terry

    1. Check the properties of your modem in the control panel.
    2. Check the properites of your dial up connection in your dialup folder, right click on it.

    If you have unchecked the "disconnect after "x "mins, then your ISP has a disconnect also.

    I have a ques. What are you running for windows? The other thing if your running XP and you've down loaded some recent up dates restore to dates before you up dated. Reason i say this last week I down load some up dates and right after that my Out look Express kept shutting down due to an error of loss connection. I'm on cable so I thought I was looseing my cable connection come to dind out it was the recent up dates sense I went back to the day before no problem. Now I've got to find out why the up dates were causeing the problem. Hope this helps

    If the other suggestions don't work you might want to take a look at a Stay On-line type of program. The following links are for three such type of freeware programs;

    Stay Alive

    Keep It Alive

    Stay Alive 2000

    The "about every 5-10 minutes" part might be due to your email program.

    Outlook Express has a setting in Tools>Options>Connections tab, "Hang up after sending and receiving." If you're using OE, make sure that's not checked. If you're using some other email client, see if there's a similar option that needs disabling.

    Look in your dial up folder for the dialup you created. Right click, properties. Then under "connect using" should be your modem listed. Click on configure, then connection tab.

    LEEWA42:

    Here's another way to access the setting that aleekat directed you to;

    At the desktop right click on your Internet Explorer shortcut. Select Properties from the pop-up menu.
    Click on the Connections Tab.
    Click on Settings under "Dial-up and Virtual Network Settings "
    In the window that opens click on the Advanced button.
    In the window that opens look to see if there is a check-mark in "Disconnect if Idle for XX minutes ". If there is remove it and click on OK.
    Click OK on the other open windows until you are back to the desktop.

    HTH.

    Overheating will affect all programs. And normally overheating causes computer lock up. What connection speeds are you getting?

    aleekat: connecting at 44,000 bps. overheating was a guess. my off-line programs work fine. it's only after being on-line 1-11/2 hrs that i drop off and redial. then about every 2 mins. checked with the isp, no problems on their end. any other ideas?

    Then my guess would be a bad modem, or drivers are not up to date for whatever Operating system you're using. Try their support site.
