    Hello all!

Approximately a year ago I installed Norton SystemWorks Pro 2001 with Ghost included.

I created two Ghost Boot Disks with the wizard, one without CD-ROM drivers and one with CD-ROM drivers.
They are both PC-DOS (the IBM variant as I understand it) and work just fine.

A couple of days ago, I was making another pair for a friend who had trouble making them and to my surprise, I had too.
They were created but when restarting from the A: the message was "non system disk" or words to that meaning.

Anyone out there who have had the same experience?

Has Windows Update and/or Norton Update made changes that make them incompatible in this respect?

I uninstalled Norton Ghost 2001 and installed Symantec Ghost 7.5 but no luck with the PC-DOS Ghost Boot Disks.

However, there´s the option to load MS-DOS system files from a Win9X Startup Disk which I did.
Then it created a working MS-DOS Ghost Boot Disk, without mouse driver, though.

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

    Edited:

I forgot to mention that my friend is on Win98SE and I´m on WinME.

I had a look at best5's link and noticed a reference to the fact that ghost doesn't always recognize the mouse commands. That said, if you want to try the mouse do a search on your puter for mouse.com. If you find it, copy it to the boot floppy and then open the autoexec.bat on the floppy in notepad and add the line "mouse" (without the quotes). If the autoexec.bat also loads ghost I'd put it somewhere before the line that loads the program.

    Hello Stefan,
    thanks for Your reply!

When I was at my friends home last weekend, to help him restore his system partition, the Ghost Boot Wizard couldn´t create a working boot disk.
I solved the problem by starting the computer from a Win98 startup disk and then replacing it by a disk with ghostpe.exe only. It worked just fine.

When I came home I created two Ghost Boot Disks on my system but they didn´t work either.
Strange, two different computers with the same change of behaviour. One on Win98 and the other on WinME.

In the meantime I have designed a MS-DOS based Ghost Boot Disk myself which looks a lot like Your GBD but mine only has the CD-ROM drivers that I need for my CD-ROM.

I´ll try one of Your design and I´m sure it too will work just fine.

    Regards,
    Christer

    Zander,
    thanks for the tip!

That was the next step on my path towards the Optimum MS-DOS based Ghost Boot Disk.

    Regards,
    Christer

    Edited:

The "not recognizing mouse commands correctly" was in the context of running ghost(pe).exe from the D: partiton, or did I misunderstand it?

    Hello

I didn't put mouse support in purpose.
    Mouse commands aren't recognized properly
by Norton Ghost DOS version and this can
create a whole mess. That's a bug, of course.
    Otherwise, N.Ghost works wonderfully.

    Stefan,
You seem to have built more experience on this matter than I have so, I´ll take Your advice and leave the mouse out of it.
It works well from the key board anyway.

I still wonder why it worked before but not now. I´ve examined the files as far as is possible and can´t find any differences

I forgot to mention that a system based on WinME can´t be started to a command prompt by holding down ctrl/F8 or any other key(s). The startup disk must be used.

If I make a directory "GHOST" on D: containing ghost(pe).exe, then I can use the normal startup disk and when at the command prompt I can run ghost from D:, with or without CD-ROM drivers but no mouse.

    Hello again

I found in my Docs a snapshot I did after running a "mousy" ghost. The mess is complete : I never save Favorites, cause I don't work with IE, my total disk space on this PC is only 20GB and needless to say that I had to delete & recreate the D partition.
