I have a HP Pavilion PC with Windows 98 software. My Internet Explorer connection is an Ethernet cable to a Etherfast Wireless Access Point + Cable/DSL Router attached to a Cable Modem. Everything worked fine until I thought I needed a Wireless USB Adapter installed on the PC in order to share files with my remote Laptop. The laptop has a Network PC Card that connects to the Wireless Router and attaches to the Cable Modem to access the Internet.

I installed the Wireless USB Adapter. Immediately, I was unable to access the Internet on the PC, but have no problem accessing with the remote laptop. On the PC I keep getting a message that I have performed an illegal procedure and will be closed down. The message is as follows:

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in

I have uninstalled the Wireless USB Adapter but I am still getting this message everytime I try to connect the PC to the Internet. The remote laptop continues to connect to the Internet without any trouble. I have also deleted TCIP and reinstalled without any Internet connection success. Can you give me some idea as to what I can do to solve this problem? I know the problem is not with the router or the cable modem because the remote laptop accesses the Internet fine. I have closed the PC down and then unplugged the router and cable modem. Then restarted computer and plugged in cable modem, then router without success.

Also, when I restart the computer, I am also getting a new illegal procedure message entitled "Backweb 8876480â€.

Solved my own problem. Found Micosoft Knowledge Base Article 241344 at
    http: support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;241344.
Evidently, there were multiple instances of Winsock files.
