    My M/B is a ECS K7S5A (with latest flash) running win98se. 128MB Ram. 32mb TNT2 vga.

sounds like you might need a new battery.

    How old is the machine?

There is a long list of posts on this on their website. I believe it is www.ecsusa.com However, when my motherboard arrived, on first boot, I got a battery low warning. I noted that, but did nothing as it did not reoccur. Until, that is, two weeks later when I booted up and had lost my BIOS settings. I simply bought a new battery at Radio Shack, and have been doing fine ever since. It has been suggested that either an incorrect shutdown, or using the power switch for a quick shutdown, causes this problem as well. I can't confirm or deny that, but that's what I have on the subject. Good luck, and if you find a different solution, let us all know.
