    what is a device driver???

my computer is relatively new and since i got it it continually automatically shuts down and reboots itself and displays a box telling me to send an error report message. when i send the report it brings me to a website that tells me a have a problem with a device driver.

can anyone help me to fix this problem???

i've lost tons of work when it just shuts down on me!

    thanks!

If it's relatively new, bring it back and have them fix it.

A device driver is a small program that tells the OS how to communicate with a device, usually hardware.

    One thing you could try:
Right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the Advanced tab and then the Startup And Recovery Settings button. Uncheck the box that says, "Automatically Restart ".

That will give you a blue screen instead when the problem occurs next time with some (possibly) useful information on the error.

Or check your event logs (right-click My Computer~manage~event viewer) and there should be errors in there telling you exactly which device is causing the problem.

Check the vendor/mfgr web site for drivers and you can probably download & install the latest and greatest.

If you figure out which device but have problems on what to do next, post back saying exactly which critter is acting up.

the blue screen has given me the information on which file seems to be giving me the problem. but i don't know what it is or what to do from here....

it is a system file, and there is a caution about opening it.

any other suggestions of what to do next?

    thanks

this is what it says in my events viewer,it is the most recent error, but i have no idea what it means.

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: System Error

    Description:
    Error code 000000be, parameter1 bf97db50, parameter2 0ba42021, parameter3 f18bcc44, parameter4 0000000c.

mmm - go to the event viewer and open the event. Then click the icon below the up/down arrows. That will send a text copy of the full error to your clipboard. Open a reply box and paste it here.
