    I don't know how to use Phone Dialer. File is: C:\Program Files\WindowsNT\dialer.exe. I installed it correctly, following MS instructions in its database, so correct installation is not the subject of my question. The modem is also correctly installed, and not in use when I try to make a call. My question refers to making a call.

    When I ring a number using my voice modem via Phone Dialer, the receiving side hears the ring and lifts the tube, and when the pop-up window in my Phone Dialer program says: "connected ", I open my phone tube, but we can not hear each other. When I call myself, the pop-up window says, as expected, "busy" ".

    Phone Dialer's Help is not helpful on this item, because I do exactly as instructed. Can somebody detail for a dummy the exact order of events that I must follow to ring a number via Phone Dialer?

    Thanks in advance,
    haim

    This may sound silly, but have you checked to make sure your microphone is plugged into the correct port?

    Might also want to open up Volume Control and make sure that your Microphone is not muted. To open Volume Control, if it is not already displayed in your Task Bar;

    Open Control Panel, click on Sounds and Audio Devices, click on the Audio Tab, click on the Volume button under Sound Recording. A new window should open called Recording Control. If there is a check-mark in Mute box under Microphone remove it.

    For the other half of the equation (you being able to hear them) , do you have the speaker port on the modem plugged in?. You can plug it into your speakers or, as mine is, you can plug it into the line in on your sound card. If the latter look in the volume control and make sure your line in volume is turned up and not muted.
