    Any WMP wizards here????

When I go to play a quick movie flick with WMP, it opens WMP then comes up with the following 2 screens as errors one can send to MS. The odd time, after several attemps, it will play the flick. I tried System Restore and reinstall of WMP. Everything I have tried is of no consequence.

In the first error window called Windows Media Player, the following information is posted:

    Error Signature

    AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2980 ModName: mcspmpeg.ax
    ModVer: 1.0.0.29 Offset: 000066b2

In the second error window called Error Report Contents the following is posted:

    Exception Information
    Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: ox00000000
    Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x000000001d2066b2

I absolutely give up here. Help??????

    Thanx,

    Homer

EDIT I should add here that saved mpegs are no problem. It's the ones off the internet, direct, that cause the problem.

This may be caused by codecs installed as part of Kazaa or Adobe Premier.

    Find and delete:
    mcdsmpeg.ax and mcspmpeg.ax

    That's It!

    You know what, Abraxas?

Now I can donate my eyes to science. I have seen everything!

WOW! How in the world can one person have that much knowledge????

You just knocked me right over with that one!

Sure enough, both files were in C:\WINDOWS\system32

I moved them for safe storage to the recycle bin and presto! Perfect movie clips!

I do run Kazaa but not Premiere. Have other Adobe products. Had Kazaa for a long time now.

    Who cares?

Just take yourself the biggest bow you can and do it right away, please!

This was no easy matter and, thanks to you, the impossible to fix has been fixed.

    Eternally in your debt,
    Homer

Glad to hear it. If they had been WMP codecs, they would have been automatically downloaded/reinstalled. And other ones are not hard to find.

Kazaa may not play some things, but it has a terrible player anyway.
