Tomorrow i will be setting a friend setup up the computer that i built for him 5 years ago. It is runnning Win98SE and he has been using dialup as his connection. I want to know where i can download all the security updates, IE6, and the latest DirectX files for the last 2 years, I'd say. (he isnt very PC savy and i can guarantee that he hasnt updated win98)I want to just install them one after another tomorrow. I would like to burn all the updates to a CD so i dont have to wait forever to download them using a 56K modem. Any links and tips will help as to the order in which to install them. Thanks in advance

Go to the Winupdate page. Select IE6 for download, (my sequence may be off a little). Select custom download, (look for advanced tab) then I believe you will have the option to download and install later. I did this direct to a zip drive, then took it to another computer. Copy the contents to the hard drive and then selected setup. If you select the wrong setup file, it will try to connect to the internet. You can just stop it, and look again..

    aleekat,

That was the first page i tried for IE6. XP allows for no options in the installation part. MS doesnt seem to have the whole file for download. I guess i can live w/out installing IE6.

I guess you could save IE6 till last, then download via dialup, then go get a "cold one "...

Or if you know anyone running 98 on DSL, cable etc..
