The files have been copied onto a floppy diskette (a)

    schamish,

During the install process, do you have the option to browse for the necessary file instead of using the CD? If so, maybe you can point the system in that direction.

Are the install files not on the disk that came with the card?
Browse there, not the Windows CD. The driver it needs is an updated one on the disk, not the older built in Windows ones.

    The correct procedure is

    1. Install drivers from the CD that came with the device.
    2. Shut down the computer.
    3. Install the PCI card in the slot inside the computer.
    4. Re-boot and windows will find the new hardware and ask if you wish to install the drivers.
    5. Choose the "Install automatically" option.
    6. Windows may ask you to re-boot. Do so if asked.
    7. Once re-booted, then plug any USB device in the USB port.

From your post it seems as if you are trying to install the card via the Add Hardware Wizard which is the wrong way around from my experience.

    and ????

This computer will save you time.
Well I tried everything went through all the proper procedures and in the end for no good reason when I posted in the address
to look for the files it took.
Next step is to install the intel webcamera software and..
the 2 usb drivers "open host controller" and "root hub" seem to be functioning.
by the way in the end I manually selected the usb device.
so much for "Plug and Play ". As I said before now I remember why i liked my Mac with system 7.
by the way I was looking at Macs for a friend who will use them for graphics at work and all things considered you seem to get real value for your money- does not seem to be much of a
    propietary surcharge.
