I cannot for the life of me get any self-extracting executable to run. I keep getting the message
bad self-extract header or corrupt file transfer. No matter what i do, nothing works, and I'm possitive that my downloads are coming through right, and the executables work for all of my friends. Could it be related to IE and Outlook Express lagging as bad as they do? Somebody please help me!

    Recover from CIH

Another good source for recovering from a CIH attack is:
http://grc.com/cih.htm Although you need to deal with a bit of hyperbole, Gibson has a very worthwhile site and some superb freeware for this sort of thing.

masterlimes Welcome to the board :)

With multiple tries and most likely a reboot in there, I wonder about your ability to get here with CIH. Some downloads tend to be corrupted if a virus scan runs during the download. If the CIH fix doesn't help try downloading with your virus scanner off then scan after download.

    Thank You

Thank you all for your help. I think I might have the CIH licked. My question is, what do I do for files that the checker can't clean? It's things like windows explorer and other windows programs. Should I just delete the infected files that can't be cleaned and see where I stand when the dust settles? Thanks again.

    Be very careful

Be very careful before you delete anything for example
WINDOWS EXPLORER is an integral part of windows and you will probably find that you can' run windows if you delete it I would seek more advice here before you delete anything

    masterlimes,

alboy has a very good point here, I speak from experience here,
my PC was infected with some worm and I just run NAV without checking the settings first and bingo NAV got rid of the virus ok but also half of my Windows and Control Panel. It was set to clean not prompt first.
I endet up having to start from scratch yes "Bite the Bullet "
