    Hi catman,

I opened C:\Windows\mplayer.exe, the original media player that came with Windows 95, and I don't see anything resembling a history, even after opening and playing a few different sounds and video clips (wav, mid, .mpg files). You don't mean the contents of the actual Windows folders where you select the files to open, do you?

If you're not talking about mplayer.exe then open your player and check in Help About .to see name and version. Also describe in more detail where you see the history that you want to remove.

I know exactly ho to do this. There is a good little program called windows washer. It erases all traces of your actions. you will be surprised as to how much rubbish is kicking about. You have lots of options as to what to delete, how to delete it and when. Give me a shout and I'll send you it.
It can delete everything from media player ,internet history, winamp(?) and the site has plug ins of all kinds to suit your installed programs.

    Catman,

Don't do any deleting! The "Program Files\Windows Media Player "Folder contains the files needed by the more recent Windows Media Player (mplayer2.exe)

Post back with your media player version and what history you want to remove.

Alice , why do you think I recommend using a program to get shot of the history?? This guy is obviously wanting a quick resolution to hiding files viewed from wife/kids/police whatever....who cares?
This way he wont do a: damage ; b: get caught as there are a million places that windows stores info and shortcuts to what you've been up to.
Ultimately its the best and most efficient way to get rid of clutter!!!:D

howay, what do you mean by that.its a company laptop and i dont think they would be amused at me watching jay and silent bob on it.
i've sorted it by deleting media player from regedit restarting and reinstalling media95 so now it's empty

    Catman,

I'm glad you got your problem sorted out using regedit on your own. I'm still a bit l curious about where you were seeing that history, and your media player version.

    nhal1uk,

I didn't mention anything at all about your suggestion to use a program like Window Washer. I did wonder why you didn't just post a link to the program so Catman could research it out and download it himself. It's a bad idea to accept software from people you don't know.

I was thinking of suggesting something similar,
Spybot S&D to erase usage tracts from places like the registry and Windows\Temporary Internet Files but first I wanted to know the media player version and where the history was being seen, in case there was a simpler solution.

    for Alice..

well firstly Alice the washer program is trial only, I was offering to send the program(full)...I am a naughty boy....
...then again I got it free !!
Basically I don't know where you get the history from either, ok, but when i installed it, I was SHOCKED to see what it picked up, and from how long ago.....in short windows remembers everything..and you'll never find it all!!!(beleive me)..I gives me the creeps that spy-ware gets it the back door, it might be sending info on to who knows....the police probably !! so that is why it is important to just get it all off...then you can't get caught...tell me what you think/

    What I think?

I think you are a bad bad boy :D offering
to send that program..... and besides, you will get yourself in trouble that way!
What happens if the person to whom you send the program has problems with it? How will he get technical help?

SpybotSD will remove usage tracks and it has technical support and also a message board where people can go for help and questions. And, the program is free (the author has recently started asking for a $5.00 donation).

I don't worry thast much about history or usage tracks, though. The only other person using my pc is my husband and I'm not hiding anything ;)
