I do a lot of recording of CD+G discs, reading sub code information. In W98SE, you could go into the Device Mgr, go to CDRom, and click off Auto Insert Notification, so a disc would not start up automatically.
I use a program that requires that the AIN is disabled . How do I disable?
Device Manager setup in W2000 is different. I have checked all the help menus and can't find anything.
Can anyone out there help me??

    Thank you

You can disable it on a one-time basis by holding down the shift key while inserting the CD. This will bypass autorun.

    To turn it off/on,
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom
and set the autorun value to 0 to disable or 1 to enable.

    AIN W 2000

Firstly, let me thank you for this information on the AIN. I held the shift key and it worked OK. I also went into the registry and changed the number to 0, as you suggested. However, I haven't yet rebooted, so I will check this out further. I really am happy to find someone with your knowledge about W2K. As I run into problems, I would like to direct them to you if I may. I am having a recording problem , using w2K, but works well in W98SE. Now that we corrected the AIN, I will see if that solves the problem.

    Thanks again

donabano - thanks for the compliment. But better to just post them here. There are several (at least) on here who know 2K much better than I do and lots who know much more about specific areas than I ever will.

I am on this site pretty much every week day in the afternoon/evening EST and an occasional weekend day. If I see an issue that I can help with, I do so.
